Washing machine is not spinning

Modified on Fri, 5 Jan, 2024 at 4:11 PM

On rare occasions, you may find that your washing machine fails to spin. Down below we have outlined two quick ways to remedy the problem and get your washing machine back to top performance. Scroll down to watch our video explanation.

If the drum still fails to spin, at the bottom of the page we have some alternative options that may solve the problem.

Clean the drain pump

The issue could be prompted by a pump blockage. To clean the pump, follow the instructions below, or see the video:

  • Turn the appliance off
  • Pull out the mains plug.
  • Open and remove the service flap.
  • Drain off all water using a drainage hose or by removing the filter cover slowly.
  • Clean the interior, the thread and the housing of the pump so that the impeller is able to rotate.
  • Refit the pump cover and screw back firmly.
  • To check the pump for leakage and the power of the pump, pour 1 litre of water into the detergent drawer.
  • Check for any leakage.
  • If the pump is sealed watertight, start the pumping programme.

If this does not work, check the drain hose using the instructions below.

The washing machine hoses are kinked or blocked

  • Turn the appliance off.
  • Pull out the mains plug.
  • Check that the drainage hose has been installed correctly without any kinks.
  • Before loosening the hose clip on the siphon, place a bucket under the tap to avoid spills.
  • Carefully remove the drainage hose and pour the remaining water out of the drainage hose into the bucket.
  • Clean the drainage hose and the connecting piece of the siphon.
  • Hold the drainage hose in the bucket.
  • Select the "Drain" programme.
  • Connect the drainage hose to the siphon.
  • Check whether the drain hose is watertight.
  • If this does not work, and you have already tried cleaning the drain pump, please book an engineer to repair your washing machine.

Alternative options to try:

Check that the door is closed properly

If your washing machine detects that its door is open, it won’t start functioning. Make sure that the door is firmly shut. Remove items that get caught in the door and push it closed until you hear a locking sound.

Make sure the load is evenly distributed

Laundry that’s unevenly distributed inside the drum might cause damage your washing machine. To prevent this, Beko washing machines will automatically inspect the load and stop the spinning process if it’s distributed unevenly inside the drum.

Absorbent items such as rugs and blankets are generally the cause. To avoid unbalanced loads, wash bulky items like blankets with at least one other heavy item like a big towel or another blanket. If the drum stops spinning mid-cycle, try stopping the machine, draining the water and rearranging the laundry.

Avoid using too much detergent

You might be using too much detergent or an inappropriate type for your appliance. In this case, your washing machine will stop the spinning cycle and try to absorb the excess foam in its drum. Read the instructions on the detergent packaging to find out if it’s the right type for your washing machine. Make sure that you’re using no more than the recommended dose.

See if there’s water left in the drum

The spinning cycle won’t start if the water hasn’t drained completely. Turn off your washing machine and check the drain hose and the pump filter. The hose shouldn’t be bent or clogged. Unclog or straighten it if necessary. Replace leaking, punctured or rusted hoses. Clean your drain pump every three months to avoid clogging.

Check the drive belt for damage

Open the door and try turning the drum with your hand. If it turns with no resistance at all, your washing machine’s drive belt may be damaged or broken. In this case, please contact an authorised service agent.

Consider technical failure

Your washing machine might have stopped due to an electrical spike. Unplug your appliance, wait for a minute and then plug it back in. Try starting the programme again. If the problem continues, your washing machine might have a technical problem. If you suspect this to be the case, pkease raise a ticket and one of our technicins will be in touch.
